Dr. Lisa Piercey

As a Strategic Advisor to Claritas Health Ventures (CHV), Dr. Lisa Piercey helps deepen CHV’s commitment to driving healthcare innovation, with a focus on improving access to efficient and high-quality care. Her healthcare expertise and her strategic engagement with CHV’s key stakeholders will play a critical role in continuing to develop the CHV program, including existing and future funds and investments.

Dr. Piercey is a nationally recognized physician executive, with extensive operational experience across the healthcare ecosystem, including ambulatory, inpatient, behavioral health, and post-acute settings, with an emphasis on access to care in rural and vulnerable populations. She is the Founder and CEO of Tristela Strategies, a boutique advisory firm that focuses on advising healthcare organizations on strategy and vision, as well as health policy, state and federal government relations, public health, and licensing and regulation.

Until June 2022, Dr. Piercey was a member of Governor Bill Lee’s Cabinet as the 14th Commissioner of Health for the State of Tennessee. In this role, she was responsible for managing a $700 million budget, leading over 4,300 employees, and providing licensure and regulatory oversight for Tennessee’s health professionals and healthcare facilities.

One of the most significant contributions during Dr. Piercey’s time in office was her leadership through the COVID-19 pandemic response, as Chair of Governor Lee’s pandemic task force. In this role, Dr. Piercey also represented state health officials across national and international media platforms and in multiple interactions with the White House during two presidential administrations, and she frequently collaborated with CDC, HHS, and FDA, as well as private sector laboratory and pharmaceutical corporations on testing, vaccine, and therapeutics efforts. Her department received the John Seigenthaler Media Award as well as three Emmy nominations for its clear and actionable public health messaging throughout the pandemic.

Prior to her public service, Dr. Piercey spent nearly two decades as a senior-level operational executive, providing clinical and administrative leadership in large medical group and health system operations, including a role as Executive Vice President of West Tennessee Healthcare, the nation’s 9th largest public, not-for-profit health system. She has been recognized by numerous hospital, physician, and public health organizations for her operational leadership.

Dr. Piercey also has wide-ranging experience serving on the leadership of several national association committees, as well as academic and nonprofit boards. Since 2007, Dr. Piercey has been on the clinical faculty at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, as well as the adjunct faculty of the University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center.

After earning her B.S. in Chemistry from Lipscomb University, Dr. Piercey received her M.D. from East Tennessee State University and an M.B.A. from Bethel University. She is board certified in both General Pediatrics and Child Abuse Pediatrics and continues to actively evaluate children who are suspected victims of abuse and neglect.
